Industrial Landscape – Frankfurt

Frankfurt International Airport, Germany copyright 2010 Douglas Stockdale

Walking through the Frankfurt International airport, I glanced to my left and stopped dead in my tracks. What a beautiful sight! I am not sure why I find these industrial construction sites so fascinating, but I do. I think I can trace my current interest in these industrial landscapes to my project in China, where there was a sky full of cranes and construction equipment.

In this case, it is the dramatic front lighting with a break in the storm that was passing through, the dance of the construction cranes and how they seem to be aesthetically located and balanced within the frame, the German colors of yellow, gray and black, the crisp lines and shapes that echo of the building that create the horizon with the large aircraft providing a curious break and counter weight within the photograph.

Best regards, Douglas
